Love Port Arthur Ministry Day
The Austin Disaster Relief Network is organizing a ministry event for the people of Port Arthur, Texas on September 30th.
Port Arthur has a population of over 50,000 and an estimated 80% of people’s homes are covered in 2-3 feet or more of water. Many people can’t even return to their homes due to mold. The city has a limited income and is one of the most overlooked cities affected by Hurricane Harvey.
ADRN is looking for volunteers to go to Port Arthur and distribute supplies to affected citizens, help assess individual home damage, go door to door in order to meet and minister to people, and help work with a thrift store in the area where citizens can go and get things that they need.
This will be a relational kind of mission project working with hurting people; many of whom have lost everything. There will be no clean-up, demolition, or construction.
ADRN has set a goal of 1,000 volunteers for this all day event. Buses will be departing from different locations all around Austin at 4:00 a.m. Everyone will be briefed on the buses, and instructions will be given out once the buses reach the local high school. After dinner, everyone will get back on the buses at 8:00 p.m., so plan to arrive back in Austin around midnight.
No children under 15 will be allowed to attend, as it will be a long day and there may be unsafe areas.
If you would like to go, please email Morgan Reeves at moc.liamgnull@65seveernagrom.
