CHILDRENs MINISTRY

The Ark, which is the name of our nursery and preschool program for newborns to four and five-year-olds not yet in school, is offered during both the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services. The Ark is based on the First Look curriculum which lays the foundation for the truths to be learned on UpStreet, the elementary program at SHPC. The three basic truths that we teach in the Ark are:

  • God made me.
  • God loves me.
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Welcome to UpStreet!

Our Sunday School program for Kindergarten through 5th graders is called UpStreet, and it builds further on the foundational principles taught during the preschool years in The Ark. It is based on a small group/large group format, utilizing a large group for Bible storytelling and worship and a small group for personal interaction as kids learn to apply Biblical truths to their own lives. UpStreet covers one virtue a month for three years, so by the time a child attends the years between Kindergarten and 5th grade, they will have covered all 36 virtues twice, as well as over 150 Scripture stories.

We hope that by implementing this curriculum as foundational teaching of our Christian faith, every child who attends UpStreet will grow up to say:

  • I need to make the WISE choice.
  • I can TRUST God no matter what.
  • I should treat OTHERS the way I want to be treated.

In addition to this teaching on Sunday, we offer KidStuf on one Wednesday night per month between January and May, and again between September and December. KidStuf is where kids take their parents to learn. It’s a fast, noisy, zany, multimedia, kid-focused, parent-centered, virtue-driven 45-minute extravaganza. KidStuf is the best way for parents to catch up on what we talked about on UpStreet so they can keep on talking about it all month long. Find out more ...

Basically, KidStuf is a 45-minute weekly program that uses music, drama, and storytelling to entertain and inspire—you won’t want to miss it! On each of these nights, dinner will be offered from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for a nominal fee, followed by the KidStuf extravaganza from 6:30-7:15 p.m. We’d love to see all of our families commit to make these a priority since they’re a wonderful way for parents and children to grow in faith together. (Parent of a preschooler?) Mark your calendars now to attend all of our KidStuf productions:
