MONEY!

Very few words can trigger such a range of emotions in people, but this little five-letter word, m-o-n-e-y, has the power to cause glee or depression. In some cases, one person can experience a variety of feelings — and all at one time! So, how do you view money? What does it mean to you? And, more importantly, what does it have to do with God?

Crown Financial Ministries invites SHPC members and friends to join a small group that studies what the Bible says about money. It is a ten-week session that looks at how God works with us and through us to be responsible financial stewards as well as loving Christians. Topics include:

During the course, participants examine their goals and finances and work to improve the areas, not just financial, that they feel are important. (No personal information is shared at any time, though.) Moreover, Crown is a way to build friendships as Biblical principles are discussed.

Materials cost $25 for a single participant and $35 for a couple. Scholarships are available. There is some outside preparation for each class.

So what do former participants say?

CFM exceeded my wildest expectations. The relationships that were created within this class will last a lifetime and I know that I will always have support from every member of the group. In addition, this was an AWESOME experience to share with my 18-year-old daughter. I highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to get a better understanding of themselves and what God’s intentions are for us regarding money, debt, saving and spending.

In this land of plenty, it easy to forget to thank God for everything. For me, the Crown class brought back into focus, “In everything give thanks...” (1 Thess 5:18). The Holy Spirit moved me to take the class and I am thankful that I actually to listened Him. Though necessary and appropriate for any (adult) age, I think Crown can be especially beneficial to older teens and young adults.

My attitude shifted over the 10-week course. My motto was, "If it is decorative and non-functional, I'll buy it!" But I'm newly married to an engineer with a slightly different philosophy.  The class gave us a common vocabulary to work through money issues.  I recommend the class for life partners who look at money from different perspectives.  Crown helps build a base for joint decisions.

One of the aspects of Crown Financial Ministries that I found intriguing was how much God had to say about money and our stewardship of money.  I had never realized the number of passages in the Bible that relate to all aspects of finances. What was most amazing was that it is as relevant today as it way thousands of years ago.
